Resume Writing Tips: Building a winning resume.
-
Think of your resume as a marketing tool...sell yourself!
-
Determine your objective and structure your resume accordingly.
-
Use bulleted sentences. Resumes are read quickly.
-
Use action Words: begin sentences with words such as: prepared, developed, presented.
-
Statistics are important. Use numbers, dollars, and percentages whenever appropriate. Examples include: "Maintained inventory of 15,000 items." "Developed $1,500,000 in new business in 2008." and "Cut costs by 25%."
-
Lead with your strengths.
-
Use Keywords: review ads for positions that interest you, and use these key works on your resume whenever applicable.
-
Use Buzzwords: terms that show your competence in a particular field.
-
Accent the positive: focus on duties that support your objective.
-
Construct your resume to read easily. Leave white space, use a font no smaller than 10 point.
-
Have someone else review your resume. Clarify your resume based upon input.
-
List achievements instead of responsibilities.
